About Us

The Better Start Partnership working together to improve outcomes for Blackpool’s children

A Better Start aims to improve the life chances of babies and very young children by delivering a significant increase in the use of preventative approaches in pregnancy and first three years of life. Big Lottery Fund has invested £215m over 10 years in five local area partnerships within Blackpool, Bradford, Lambeth, Nottingham and Southend on Sea.

The Better Start Partnership in Blackpool has been awarded £45 million, led by the NSPCC, the inclusive partnership is made up of the Local Authority, Clinical Commissioning Group, Blackpool Hospital Teaching Trust, Police and the Community. It brings together local families, communities, and agencies from across public, private and voluntary sectors.

Initially, we are focussing in the seven wards where communities face the greatest challenges: Bloomfield, Brunswick, Claremont, Clifton, Park, Talbot and Victoria. As we learn what works in these wards, the partnership will invest further local funds in replicating effective programs and services across the whole town, leaving a lasting legacy for Blackpool.

Our Story

We have been awarded £45m by the Big Lottery Fund for our 10 year project. Our interventions and approach will transform the way services are delivered to children and families. Together we will deliver lasting change, ensuring Blackpool becomes a place in which all families raise happy, healthy children who grow up to take pride in belonging to, and giving back to, our community.

Our Priorities

Better Start will improve services for 0 to 3 year olds and their families. We aim toachieve a generational shift, ensuring that today’s babies enjoy the early care and nurture they need for healthy development and to be ready for school. In turn, as Blackpool’s babies grow up and become parents themselves, they will pass on the Better Start legacy to the next generation.
