Be Your Baby’s Hero

Drinking alcohol during pregnancy can lead to learning difficulties, heart problems and permanent damage to a developing baby’s brain. There is no safe amount. But it’s not just the responsibility of the mum-to-be, everyone around the unborn baby can be a superhero and help keep alcohol to zero.

What is ‘Be a Hero?’

‘Be Your Baby’s Hero, Keep Alcohol to Zero’ is Blackpool Better Start’s new public health campaign to raise awareness of the dangers of drinking alcohol during pregnancy. You may have seen the posters around town, in your Children’s Centres and on social media. It features superheroes who have a shared responsibility for the health of the unborn baby – Supermum, Superdad, Supernan and Supermate.

Why keep alcohol at zero during pregnancy?

We now know that no amount of alcohol is safe during pregnancy. Going alcohol-free reduces the risk of:
• Miscarriage
• Birth defects
• Learning difficulties
• Behavioural issues
• Emotional and physical problems

At the launch of our Be A Hero campaign, Houndshill Shopping Centre in Blackpool was overrun with heroes letting people know that no amount of alcohol is safe during pregnancy. Not only were they wearing capes, but they had some pretty great dance moves too.
