All our services have been created with Blackpool parents, for Blackpool parents. They range from antenatal classes at your local Children’s Centre, to services that help with heavier problems like addiction and anger in the home. We know that being a parent can be tough, Blackpool Better Start offer over 19 different programmes and activities that help lighten the load and support you in raising happy, healthy children.
Pregnant Women or Families With Children Under One
A parenting support group providing advice and information on baby carrying. The Sling Library helps families learn how to use slings and carriers safely and comfortably, and allows you to try out different types and styles of slings to see which one you want to use. Sessions are held every two weeks.

All Blackpool children under 5 years old are welcome to free NHS dental care, and StartingWell aims to help families access their local dental services and provide advice on how to keep children’s teeth healthy.
Through the year, Children’s Centres host a week of fun and free activities with themes based on children’s books. Families can join in storytelling and craft sessions, as well as getting out in the local parks and open spaces! The Park Rangers bring science back into play with fun activities and sessions at local parks and open spaces. The Rangers have been trained in Forest School and offer weekly activities year-round, (whatever the weather!) including planting, crafts, and nature-themed foraging.
FRED is a 4 week programme that encourages dads, grandads, big brothers and other male role models to read regularly with their children. Each group session is full of support and ideas, and everyone will receive a free story book as well as information on how to join your local library!
The Volunteer Academy is a volunteer service that helps you find and develop your skills as a volunteer. The VA provides training and support each step of the way to help you set goals and achieve them.
The Sport Blackpool Leadership Course is available to any parent, grandparent, family member or carer and specialises in early years activities for children aged 0-4 years old and volunteers gain a Level 1 Award in Sports Volunteering, and learn skills including officiating games, organising events, fundraising and communication.
When you come to an Activity Budget Forum, you and other parents, carers and family members can suggest and apply for funded activities you want to see take place in the community. Blackpool Better Start and Community Voice members then consider your activity suggestions for funding. Your ideas can make a big difference at these sessions!
